Raleigh, NC – May 5, 2021 – ONUG Communications is proud to announce the hire of Michael Pickett as our Director of Operations. Pickett brings 20 years of field management experience and is highly skilled in telecommunications and computer network operations. He was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina, but received his bachelors in business administration from Colorado Technical University.

As Director of Operations, Pickett will lead the design and construction of telecom projects and services while managing the GIS, engineering, and drafting, field services and project leader team members. It will be his responsibility to oversee project budgets, timing, and help generate profitable revenue streams for ONUG Communications.
“It is with great eagerness and excitement that we welcome Mike Pickett to the ONUG leadership team.” Said Danny Huffman, President. “Mike is a seasoned telecom professional that has a wealth of experience in leading the operations of technical teams. We look forward to his insights and knowledge as we continue to grow in this dynamic sector of the telecom market.”
Previously, Pickett worked at Ericsson as a delivery manager and field services area manager supervising field technicians, evaluating employee performance, and assessing training needs. His career with Ericsson began in September 2009 after Sprint Nextel signed a deal with Ericsson. In 2010, Pickett earned his Project Management Professional certification, the world’s leading project management certification.
“Mike has proven to be a great candidate who not only meets the job qualifications and brings a wealth of telecom knowledge with him, but he also displays the characteristics that are consistent with our core values.” Said Don Wilborne, Vice President and General Manager. “I look forward to working closely with Mike and certainly believe he will be a valuable member of our team as well as a major contributor to ONUG’s future success.”
Finding people who match our core values is a top priority in our recruiting process. Pickett is familiar with both working hard and doing what is right. One of his most valuable experiences to date was the disaster recovery work he did with Nextel after Hurricane Katrina hit. He managed and performed cell site repair on affected network equipment. “When we arrived, so much was destroyed. To leave with everything working again was a great feeling” Pickett states.
